Question: What is your check-in/check-out process & times?
Answer: Check-in begins at 4:00 PM. Check-out time is always 11:00 AM. We are running a self check-in process at Kishauwau Cabins. You will receive the details of this process in your Final Payment email.
Question: What is your cancellation policy?
Answer: Cancellations made more than 21 days prior to arrival will result in a refund of deposit minus a $25 cancellation fee per cabin. Cancellations made within the 21 day non-cancellation periods will result in the forfeiture of the total amount of the reservation if we are unable to re-fill your booked dates. Any refunds will always be minus a $25 fee. *Note: Grandma’s cabin has a 90 day cancellation policy as well as if you are booking as a part of a group. All cabins within the group will be held to the 90 day non-cancellation period.
Question: What is included in each accommodation?
Answer: All linens are provided, and the full kitchen has basic pots and pans, cooking utensils, & dishes. Flat screen TV with DVD player. Personal outdoor bonfire pit, and picnic table with charcoal grill (gas grill at Jack’s Deluxe Cabin). Thermostat controlled heating and cooling.
Question: Is internet access available?
Answer: We believe in vacationing unplugged, meaning our wooded wonderland is an oasis from technology where you can focus on reconnecting with your loved ones. Due to the beauty of mature trees throughout our property Wifi is not offered in our cabins and cell service is spotty. Guest Wifi is available in our office for quick use by adults only.
Question: Is housekeeping provided?
Answer: Our cabins are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each stay but we do not provide housekeeping during any stays.
Question: Are children welcome?
Answer: Children are welcome but must be supervised by an adult. Please always mind the noise level out of respect for your neighbors. Also, keep in mind that you are coming to the woods where there are things like poison ivy and itch weed are present. If there are concerns, please ask us.
Question: Are you pet friendly?
Answer: We have four cabins that are dog friendly. Sorry, dogs are the only pets we allow. I (Terisa) am very allergic to cats so unfortunately we do not allow them in any of our cabins. You must be okay with our Dog Rental Policies so please be sure to look them over. Dogs are not allowed to even be outside of the non-dog cabins if here with a group. This is something to keep in mind when planning for large groups.
Question: Where do we park?
Answer: Every cabin has their own driveway so you will pull right up to your cabin. We do ask that you stay on the drive and not park in any area with grass.
Question: What is your smoking policy?
Answer: Smoking is not allowed in the cabins. If we smell tobacco smoke or marijuana or see signs of smoking in the cabin, you will be charged a $200 fee.
Question: How should I book? Online?
Answer: You are typically good to catch us in the office if calling Monday-Friday from 9am-2pm. We are a small family run property so there can be days when no one is in there. Sometimes you may get me in there earlier, sometimes later but that’s the norm.
Question: Do you have suggestions for dinner?
Answer: We have a great Area Guide on our website with our top list of local mom & pop restaurants. Definitely let us know if you have more questions after that.
Question: Is alcohol allowed in cabins?
Answer: Yes, as long as the persons are of legal drinking age and can maintain the quiet getaway we offer our guests.
Question: How far are we from Chicago?
Answer: about 100 miles south west (translating typically to a 1 ½ – 2 hour drive.
Question: How far are we from Starved Rock?
Answer: Kishauwau’s property sits about 7.5 miles south of Starved Rock State Park
Question: What is your check in/check out process?
Answer: Here at Kishauwau we have a self check in process that begins at 4pm. You will receive details of this via e-mail 5 days prior to your arrival date as well as a text 1 day before. We ask that you send a text when leaving and leave keys right on your cabin table for check out.
Question: What are your rates?
Answer: Rates can be seen on the availability calendar of our website. Unfortunately that is only if there is availability left and you are selecting the correct minimums. If you are having any trouble seeing pricing please feel free to call our office weekdays between the hours of 9am-2pm @ 815-442-8453.
Question: What are your minimums?
Answer: Weekends April – November require a minimum of 3 nights. Longer or shorter minimums may be locked depending on availability that’s left.
Question: Are you open all year?
Answer: Yes. Each season at Kishauwau Cabins offers its own unique beauty here that you need to see in person.
Question: Do your cabins have air conditioning/heat?
Answer: Every cabin here offers thermostat controlled central air & heat.
Question: Do you have a restaurant on site?
Answer: There is no restaurant on site here at Kishauwau but each cabin offers a full kitchen so you are allowed to bring in any food or drink that you like. Within a half hour drive you can also be to a restaurant of about any food choice. See some of our favorites in our Foodie Getaway Guide.
Question: Do you provide firewood?
Answer: Firewood is not provided but we do sell it here on a cash only, honor system basis and you have access to it 24/7. We also sell our homemade fire starters.
Question: What should I bring?
Answer: After booking you will receive a confirmation that has a welcome sheet attached. This goes over a listing of items provided here and things to bring from home.
Question: Are you pet friendly?
Answer: We have 4 cabins that are specific to our dog only customers. They are only allowed to be at those cabins though. Dogs are the only animals allowed. Sorry, I (Terisa) am one who is terribly allergic to cats.
Question: Do you have quiet hours?
Answer: Here at Kishauwau Cabins we very much push the peace and quiet getaway. We expect guests at all times to be mindful of noise levels for your neighbors sake. For this reason we very much frown upon outdoor music anytime. We enjoy hearing the families or reunions out having a good time during the day but still within a respectable noise level.
Question: What wildlife could I see?
Answer: Much wildlife abounds here at Kishauwau and we are in their territory. Please be respectful of their home and always leave them be. Things you might see – fox, deer, hawks, eagles, birds of all kinds (it can be a birding paradise), possum, racoons, turtles, owls, etc…
Question: Can I use my wood stove or fireplace year round?
Answer: Sorry, no. The wood stoves or gas fireplaces are only for use in the winter months. Being in Illinois that makes it hard for us to give dates on that since the weather here is unpredictable. If you know you want to use these during your stay your best bet is to book between November & April. If the weather is above the mid 40’s it is pretty much too warm to use those items, especially the wood stoves.
Question: Can I bring fireworks?
Answer: Sorry, we do not allow anyone to come with fireworks to our property anytime. The most that would be allowed would be sparklers.
