A Legacy of Family and Small Business Roots

Kishauwau Cabins is more than just a peaceful retreat, it’s a story of family, hard work, and generations of entrepreneurship. It all began in 1986, when Jamie’s father, Ben, and stepmother, Ellen, purchased the land from the local Boy Scout Council. Over the years, they transformed it into what is now Kishauwau Cabins. They renovated four original cabins, converted a rustic mess hall into the main office and gift shop, and built 13 additional cabins across the wooded 65-acre property.

Jamie has been involved since day one, learning the ropes alongside his parents and taking pride in preserving their vision. His wife, Terisa, brings her own entrepreneurial roots to the business. Her father, a machinist by trade, launched his own venture, Link’s Machine Shop, right out of their 2½-car garage in Ottawa. Terisa grew up sweeping floors and painting machines—learning firsthand the grit, determination, and passion it takes to build something from the ground up. That same drive now fuels the couple’s shared commitment to creating exceptional guest experiences.

Today, Jamie, Terisa, and their children carry on the tradition. They live on-site and continue to maintain the cabins with the same pride and personal touch that has welcomed guests for decades.
